It’s the 60s, and the American woman is captivated by the fashion of New York, Paris, and Milan. Jackie Kennedy’s style leads the nation, but Mia’s bakery job doesn’t give her the means to emulate her idol in the White House. That is, until a stranger offers her a modeling job in Paris. An orphan with big dreams, Mia boards the plane hoping this is the start of a better life. But the job of a model runs deeper than photoshoots and runways, and she is soon drawn into Cold War politics by the fashion house she works for. As she finds herself ensnared in international affairs, Mia will soon have to decide which side of history she’s really on.
Julia is a graduate of Northeastern State University and the Yale Writers’ Workshop. She is the author of For Those Who Are Lost and The Radcliffe Ladies’ Reading Club, both of which were finalists for the Oklahoma Book Award for fiction. She is married to mystery novelist Will Thomas.
