It is with great excitement that we announce a new event coming this fall. It’s a grand undertaking that will be of interest to those passionate about expanding access to books, helping underserved youth in our cities, and staking Oklahoma’s place in the literary world.
On October 4th, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Library System, Full Circle Bookstore will host a reading marathon for The Outsiders, the classic novel by author S. E. Hinton. A group of volunteers, which will include public figures, educators, and youth services workers, will take shifts reading aloud from the book in its entirety as a crowd silently reads along. Reading will commence at 6 p.m. and conclude at midnight, once the last word has been uttered. And yes, there will be an intermission.
All profits from copies of The Outsiders will go toward the Library Endowment Trust. For those curious about what can be done to assist at-risk youth, there will be literature and resources provided by a few of the many charitable organizations doing good work in our state.
Full Circle has now begun to solicit volunteers to read at the event. They will be asked to read only a few pages each, and they will receive them in advance if they wish to practice. If you are interested in reading aloud, please fill out the form below. No public speaking experience is necessary or required.
Please also consider attending any of the Metropolitan Library System’s related events, which can be found here: https://www.metrolibrary.org/event/Outsiders
With Oklahoma’s community of readers behind us, it is our hope that this marks the beginning of Oklahoma City’s next literary tradition, and with your participation, we can make that happen.
